• Plans to add additional CFM56 engine to support growth

LE BOURGET — 16 June 2015 — Sriwijaya Air today announced a firm order for CFM56-7B engines to power two B737-900ER, as well as its intent to exercise options for up to 20 additional 20 737 aircraft. The firm CFM56-7B order is valued at $44 million U.S at list price.

Based in Jakarta, Indonesia, Sriwijaya Air began operations in 2003 and now is the third largest airline in Indonesia by market share. The airline currently operates a fleet of 41 Boeing 737 aircraft powered by the CFM56-7B and CFM56-3. This fleet serves 40+ domestic and international routes.

“We are glad to add CFM-powered Boeing 737-900ER aircraft to our current 737 fleet,’ said Chandra Lie, president, director and CEO of Sriwijaya Air. “We know from experience that CFM builds high quality, very reliable engines. This new order reinforces our customers’ satisfaction in what CFM has delivered with the CFM56 product line.”

“This new order is testament of Sriwijaya Air’s trust in CFM engine” said Chaker Chahrour, vice president and general manager of Sales & Marketing for CFM parent company GE Aviation. “We are proud that Sriwijaya Air has again selected CFM to be such an integral part of their operations over the long term”.

All of Sriwijaya Air's new 737s will be powered by the CFM56-7BE engine, the new production configuration introduced in mid-2011. CFM used advanced computer codes and three-dimensional design techniques to improve airfoils in the high- and low-pressure turbines for better engine performance. In addition, the company improved engine durability and reduced parts count to achieve lower maintenance costs. When combined with airplane improvements, the engine provides two percent better fuel efficiency and up to four percent lower maintenance costs.

CFM has been the sole engine supplier for all Boeing 737 aircraft models since 1981.
