CFM Expands TRUEngineTM Program, Launching TRUEngine LLP Designation

September 24, 2013

LONDON, England – CFM International is expanding the highly successful TRUEngine program by launching the new TRUEngine LLP designation, designed to offer the industry an easy means of evaluating the operating history of used, life-limited parts (LLP).

“The TRUEngine LLP designation is a proactive answer to customer requests for a reliable means of identifying life-limited parts that have always operated in OEM configuration,” said Tom Levin, general manager of Material Services for CFM International. “This extension of our successful TRUEngine program will ensure access to optimized OEM support and help operators protect their asset value.”

To earn the TRUEngine LLP designation, which is currently being offered for the CFM56-5B and CFM56-7B engine models, life-limited parts are subjected to a rigorous records audit and engineering review/analysis to evaluate their configuration and maintenance history relative to  airworthiness limitations substantiated by CFM and documented in the engine manual.    LLP will be qualified at the part level and at a specific time-since-new and cycles-since-new.

Life-limited parts are the most critical engine components and include rotating components such as, disks, spools and shafts. Life limits are established during the engine certification process using a rigorous methodology that includes stress analysis, thermal analysis, materials property data, life analysis, and operating conditions, including parts that mate to, or interact with, life-limited parts.

Launched in 2008, the TRUEngine designation provides assurance to owners, operators, and engine buyers that engines qualified for the TRUEngine program have been maintained to CFM’s configuration. An independent study has clearly shown that engines maintained with OEM parts and repairs maintain higher asset value than engines that include non-OEM parts or repairs. About 7,500 CFM56 engines operated by 88 operators have received the TRUEngine designation.
