SETTING THE STANDARD
The CFM56 engine set the standard for single-aisle commercial jet engines. Owing its success to its exceptional reliability and performance, CFM56 was built on over four decades of experience and technological excellence. With more than 30,000 engines delivered to date, it powers more than 550 operators worldwide.
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
Customer needs propel CFM’s technology investments. When new technologies mature, CFM incorporates the advances into production standards and re-invigorate the fleet already flying through upgrade kits. In 2007, Tech Insertion became the production configuration for all CFM56-5B engines, further providing operators with significant improvements in fuel consumption, emissions levels, and maintenance costs.
CFM56-5B ENGINE
Powering the Airbus A320 family
The CFM56-5B is the engine of choice for the A320 family, having been selected to power nearly 60 percent of the aircraft ordered. Today, it is the only engine that can power every model of the A320 family with one bill of materials. The engine’s broad-based market acceptance has been because of its simple, rugged architecture, which gives it the highest reliability, durability and reparability in its class.
APPLICATIONS
Airbus A318
24,500 – 32,900 pounds thrust
Airbus A319
23,000 – 28,000 pounds thrust
Airbus A320
27,980 – 30,000 pounds thrust
Airbus A321
27,980 – 30,000 pounds thrust
CFM56-7B ENGINE
Powering the Boeing 737 Next-Generation family
The CFM56-7B is the exclusive engine for the Boeing Next-Generation single-aisle airliner. In total, over 8,000 CFM56-7B engines are in service on 737 aircraft, making it the most popular engine-aircraft combination in commercial aviation. The engine’s broad-based market acceptance has been because of its simple, rugged architecture, which gives it the highest reliability, durability and reparability in its class.
APPLICATIONS
Boeing 737
24,500 – 32,900 pounds thrust
Boeing AEW&C
23,000 – 28,000 pounds thrust
Boeing P-8 Poseidon
27,980 – 30,000 pounds thrust
REACHING RECORD PRODUCTION
Demand for the CFM56 family is still strong. In 2016, the CFM56 program reaches record production rates and production will continue until all current aircraft orders are filled. GE and Safran Aircraft Engines will also continue to provide spare engines and parts, and comprehensive through-life support during the CFM56’s remaining service lifetime of over 30 years
